about

This is a recording of a shishi odoshi at The Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, Florida. A shishi odoshi is a bamboo device that Japanese farmers use to scare away deer. Water fills up part of a bamboo pole, and then it tips to empty the water. After the water empties onto the ground, the empty end of the pole swings down to hits the ground.
